Hi and welcome to the very first post of our Made in Wirral blog.

We are so happy to be working again with Wirral Libraries to deliver a series of creative writing and art workshops for adult beginners all thanks to funding from Arts Council England with support from Wirral Libraries. 

As well as taking part in interactive workshops, everyone who attends these sessions, will have the opportunity to write a short story of around 1500 words which can be included into a published and e-book anthology. Wirral Libraries will add copies of the anthology to their catalogue so people will have the opportunity of reading everyone's stories.

There will be other ways of showcasing these stories:

  • At a celebrational book launch
  • Sharing online via this blog
Creative Writing Workshops
Over the 6 week long workshops we break down what new writers need to think about when writing a story including:
  • How to find inspiration to write a story
  • Setting scenes including looking at how to show not tell
  • Building and showing characters
  • Planning stories
  • The 7 basic plots
  • Dilemmas
  • Dialogue
  • Building suspense and tension
  • Hooks and story titles
  • Editing and Revising.
During the sessions, everyone has the chance to take part in gentle exercises and talk about their ideas.


Creative Art Workshops

Following on from the writing workshops, Nicola from Imagine Attic, will deliver a series of art workshops to help people design an illustration to go with their story in the anthology.

Made in Wirral: Free Creative Writing and Arts Workshops for Adult Beginners

  Made in Wirral Creative Writing and Arts Workshops for Adult Beginners Welcome to the introductory post about our new project for adult beginners which forms part of Wirral being the Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture for 2024. This project is entirely funded by Arts Council England plus support in kind from Wirral  Libraries.  The aims of this project are to help people with little or no writing experience write a short story of around 1500 words which can then be added to a published anthology, displayed online and in Wirral Libraries and read out at a special storytelling celebration event in late 2024. As well as holding creative writing workshops we are also delivering art sessions to help people create an illustration for their story.   Not All Heroes Wear Capes By Susan Lang Savoury aromas of a juicy chicken roasting wafted from the kitchen. The scent filled the house and teased me from my afternoon slumber. I was reminded of the time of day. Not long now and my world was about to be turned upside down. Max was due home from school any minute. I was ill this morning – dodgy guts, and I had missed seeing him today so was excited to do so now. Trying to catch a glimpse of him coming home, I charged up to our room. Leaping up the slippy laminated stairs, I skidded across the floor and crashed into the bedroom door, knocking the wooden ‘Max and Paddy’s Room’ sign.
